Race Day 12th March 2011About UsAbout UsThe first recorded race meeting in Mingenew was held on 27th January 1896 by the Upper Irwin Racing Club. This was conducted on land north of the railway line. Racing continued under this name until the Mingenew Race Club held a meeting in February 1922 under the guidence of the Western Australian Turf Club. A new course was established at the Greater Sports Ground in 1934. In 1965 the straight was laid to turf and the remainder of the track was turfed in 1978. Mingenew held a race meeting each year in March and October, we now run one meeting in March featuring the Mingenew Cup over 2000m. In 1978 the name changed once again to become the Mingenew Turf Club. In 2001 Mingenew held 3 race meetings due to the Geraldton race track being redeveloped. In 2007/08 we did not race at Mingenew due to track problems. The straight was returfed and racing continued in 2009.
